contributing to delinquency

J1, my elder nephew, moves into the dorms in less than 2 weeks' time. (He'll turn 18 soon after that, wherein I'll ask him if he'd like me to use his real name or if he'd rather remain anonymous.) He and his brother, J2, left Texas for their home state of Arizona on Saturday. I'm sure the silence at the Pants Ranch was more than a little jarring. I'm willing to bet my mother threw herself into her quilt studio almost immediately and started whipping out fabric puzzle pieces to busy herself enough to not notice the quiet.

I went to Target for cat food last night, which is a frequent trip for the asshole with 94 cats, and as I walked around the store, I found myself picking up things for J1's first college care package. He'd mentioned before he left that he forgot to get a stapler. I have a red swingline sitting on my desk at work that I never use because I staple crap so often, I use one of those light-touch jobs so my hands don't fall off. I'm going to send him that and a box of staples he'll never use up entirely. I'll probably also throw in other various office supplies from my stash, as I have an ungodly amount of office crap. It's a sickness.

I also wound up picking up several cans of Pringles, some beef jerky (he loves the stuff), candy, and first aid stuff. I'm going to make a small little kit for him. I thought about getting a tool kit for him as well, as it was handy when I was in the dorms, but there's plenty of time for that.

I did, however, pick up what seems to be the most essential college gear.

Yes, the Pants Farm is waaaaayyyyyy too quiet and clean. Are those ping pong balls? What do you do with those? At first glance they looked like eggs ....... leading to great speculation.
